THE CONSERVATIVE VIEW

BY RUSSELL TURNER

A HOT TIME TONIGHT

We are in the middle of summer and all of us are feeling the effects of the summer heat. I guess it is just human nature to blame someone for our discomfort. We continually hear that manmade global warming is the cause of all of the hot weather we are experiencing. I feel that we need to be careful in believing all of the theories being put out there about manmade global warming. We humans experience all of the seasons, winter, spring, summer and fall. We tend to take the season changes for granted, but we need to have an open mind and look at other possibilities.

It just might be that our planet has a much longer season of weather. Our planet has experienced ice ages and much warmer times than today. The trouble is that we humans do not have long enough live spans to experience the longer cycles. Over the past few years the global warming alarmists has stated that 1998 is the hottest year on record. Recently a group of NASA scientists have determined that 1998 is no longer the warmest year on record in the United States - 1934 is. Here in Oklahoma our grandparents and great grandparents endured the dust bowl era and we didn’t hear them claming that the world was about to end because we humans were the cause. Maybe we Americans of today have become a little softer than our ancestors

I believe that we all need to protect our environment, but we need to use some logic and common sense in doing so. There are treaties out there that if adopted by our leaders would seriously harm our nation and it’s economy. They would impose strict controls on developed countries such as the United States while developing countries like China and India would not be subject to the treaties. Energy and the products that we all need would take a drastic jump in price. Today we are feeling the pressure that nations like China and India are putting on us in the world market. One can only imagine how our country will fare by giving other countries an even bigger advantage over us.

One of my granddads had an old saying that I think could apply to us today. He said, “Believe nothing that you hear and only half of what you see”.
